Print: Map of Capertee Valley, Hydrology Project

$200.00

Giclee print on cotton rag paper, 40 × 40cm. As part of the Capertee Valley Hydrology project by Kandos School of Cultural Adaptation, my role was to make a map that would perform as a mnemonic device for the project. The community participated in workshops in natural sequence farming, hydrology, weaving, weed tours as well as discussions and performances of local Aboriginal history and culture. This map remembers the history of the massacres that took place as well as enacting a type of writing over the landscape, a reminder that the land was also stolen by the technology of mapping itself. Instead of a cadastral map of fence lines and lot numbers, the writing on this map reminds us of who we are when we look at a plot of land. Constructed from a seed catalogue and painted with watercolours, the map collages words that pertain to plant care, composting, spiritual practices and price tags
